Wilberforce Civic Leadership Project
A six-week, community-based summer program.
The Wilberforce Civic Leadership Project is a unique opportunity for UNC students to spend 6 weeks (early June through mid-July) in Kinston, NC working closely with Hope Restorations and/or Hope Preparatory School of Kinston. WCLP interns will lead essential projects for these non-profit ministries and engage in the community through partnerships, relationships, volunteering, and research.
lead efforts for Hope Restorations in several of the following areas: marketing and social media engagement, writing and story-telling, technology systems development, energy efficiency research, community involvement and poverty alleviation, educational systems, budgeting workshops for families, etc.
lead efforts at Hope Preparatory School to develop community partnerships, assist with student/parent recruitment, grant-writing, marketing and/or academic planning.
spearhead policy-related research projects on community-related issues.
likely spend 3 days/week in direct service to the non-profits, and 2 days/week will be spent on research projects related to an area of student interest.
receive a stipend for their work and learning over these 6 weeks.
live with families in Kinston and develop relationships with residents through church participation and community service.
