WLP Mission House - Kenya

The Wilberforce Leadership Program is organizing a 4-week program in Nairobi, Kenya, where students will live together at an inn and volunteer or work for local businesses, hospitals, or schools. We are excited about Nairobi both because of the rich cultural experience students will have in Kenya, and because of the partnerships and friendships the Study Center has developed there in recent years.

A few of our partnerships offering volunteer positions are The Comet House School, PCEA Kikuyu Hospital, and Young Life Kenya. We are continuing to develop and pursue partnerships to expand and diversify the available career fields students will be able to work and volunteer in. 

The program will run from June 1-29, 2024, and will include opportunities for connection, study, and cultural experiences outside of the workweek. Optional weekend excursions to markets, safaris, and local ministry partners will be coordinated throughout the summer. Our hope is to offer students a life-changing experience while thoughtfully considering the integration of faith and work in a cross-cultural setting.

MISSION HOUSE Goals

  • For students to practice living out their faith in the marketplace and non-profit settings

  • For students to gain exposure to different paths for faithfulness by living in a house with other leadership students who are drawn to a variety of occupations and callings

  • For students to develop a theological imagination for work, the church, and life together by processing and sharing what they are seeing, reading, and learning

  • For students to learn how faith translates into work in a different culture

PRACTITIONER ADVISORS

We are developing a team of practitioners who can help with career connections and advise on your summer plans. Currently, Anna Hunter, NCSC Board Member, has been instrumental in helping develop the Mission House vision and program.
